The Rotary Club of Ankeny donated $4,000 in support of a Rotary Global Grant to provide feminine hygiene kits to women and girls in South Africa.  The Rotary Club of Haenertsburg is the Host Club and is providing the local oversight.  The following thank you letter has ben received from Anne Harman, the Convenor for this project:

"I want to thank The Ankeny Rotary Club for sponsoring the/our Femkit project.  10,000 schoolgirls will be receiving re-usable sanitary towels.  They can be re-used for three years. Many of these school pupils miss up to a week of schooling every month as they are unable to cope with menstruation.  These towels can be re-used for up to three years.  Last year, I did attend a handing out session of these kits.  These were kits made by a church in the USA.  The girls were quite emotional on receiving them.  It means so much to them and will change their lives.

At this stage, the selection of the ladies who are being trained by Blessman International on how to make the kits has almost been completed.  They will then be taught sewing skills as well as other entrepreneurial skills.  They will be guided on how to run a small business.  This is a skill that they can use for the rest of their lives.  Each month, a report of the developments as well as a summary of invoices linked to the budget will be sent to each sponsor.  It is important to us to keep you informed on how the money which you have so generously given, is being used.

Thank you very much for your sponsorship, as well as your interest in trying to uplift the lives of all 10,000 girls in the Limpopo Province, South Africa.

Yours in Rotary,  Anne Harman, Convenor of the Femkit Project,  Haenertsburg Rotary Club"
