November is designated as Rotary Foundation Month. This month highlights the importance of The Rotary Foundation and encourages Rotarians to contribute to its various programs and initiatives. It is the mission of the Foundation to help Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment and alleviating poverty. The Foundation transforms donations into projects that address global issues to advance world understanding , goodwill like poverty, illiteracy, and disease. Since it was formed in 1917 the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects making lives better in communities around the world.
The impact a donation to the Rotary Foundation can make includes:
For as little as 60 cents, a child can be protected from polio
$50 can provide clean water to help fight waterborne illness
$200 can develop work opportunities by replacing livestock for people impacted by disasters
$500 can launch as antibullying campaign and create a safe environment for children
Every member of the Rotary Club of Ankeny is asked to contribute at least $100 per year. For most this is invoices at the rate of $25 per quarter. Some members choose to donate mare and some also prefer to contribute directly on-line using the Rotary International web site. If you have any questions or would like to increase you contribution to the Foundation, contact our Foundation chairman, Hans Hoeksema at (515) 518-7898 or hoeksemh@gmail.com.
