District Governor Mike Ruby and his wife Jo Anne made their official visit to the Rotary Club of Ankeny on September 26th.  Mike met with the Board prior to the noon meeting and led a discussion on the strengths of our club and the challenges we face.   One challenge all clubs face is "Attracting" and "Engaging" new members and several interesting ideas were discussed some of which will likely be implemented in the coming weeks.

During his presentation to the entire membership, Mike discussed the three goals of Rotary International President Ian Riseley - 1. Report volunteer hours,  2. Report money spent on projects in the name of our club, and 3. Plant a tree for each member of club. A press release is planned at year end to report the total hours and dollars all 35,000 Rotary clubs in the world contributed to Rotary projects during the past year.  Mike also discussed his "pilots" for his year as District Governor of raising money for the World Bicycle Relief Mission, mailing the quarterly District 6000 newsletter to all members instead of sending them by email, and having a "Toast to Rotary District 6000" instead of a District Conference next spring.
