Ankeny Rotarians Donate 25 Bikes

The Rotary Club of Ankeny made a donation to purchase 5 bikes and several individual members donated funds to purchase an additional 7 bikes, one tool kit, and one wheel set.  The total amount donated by the club and its members was $1,839.  With the 1:1 match from World Bicycle Relief 25 bikes will be purchased.
The following thank you was received from District Governor Mike Ruby:

"WOW!!  A million thanks for the very generous support the Rotary Club of Ankeny has given to our district project, World Bicycle Relief.  Many members of the club have donated individually to the project and the club has stepped up to the plate with an additional gift of $735.  That donation buys 5 more bikes, and with the July match, the club’s donation purchases 10 bikes, changing the economic family tree for about 50 people (10 families).  That is huge.

The RC of Ankeny clearly is showing a Service Above Self spirit of giving and you are helping to live out this year’s theme of Rotary:  Making a Difference.  You are a very special Rotary club and we are proud to have you as members of our District 6000 Rotary Family.  Even though the bike project continues for another 11 months, you have stepped up to the plate in a big way in July.  Way to go!"

Sincerely, Mike Ruby, District Governor

In total, Rotarians and Clubs in District 6000, donated $58,729 which will purchase approximately 800 bikes with the match which will have a significant economic impact on approximately 800 families and 4,000 people.  Thank you to everyone that helped make this project a such a great success.
