The Ankeny Mayor’s third annual tree lighting will offer residents a new experience this year – the event is moving outdoors to the Ankeny Market & Pavilion (AMP), 715 W. First St. It will feature the lighting of the 15 foot Concolor white fir tree that was donated by the Rotary Club of Ankeny and a fireworks finale. The event will be held on Friday, Dec. 1st, 6 – 7 p.m.
The Mayor’s Tree Lighting is an opportunity to come together as a community to kick off the holiday season. Mayor Lorenz and the Ankeny City will welcome guests at AMP starting at 6 p.m. There will also be kids’ activities, an ice carving demonstration, music, Iowa Wild slap shot hockey and more. At 6:50 p.m., Santa will arrive to help the Mayor with the official tree lighting and the event will close with a spectacular fireworks finale. After the fireworks, Santa will travel to Porch Light Coffeehouse, 417 SW Third St., for a meet and greet until 8 p.m.
