The Rotary Club of Ankeny is now 7 months from completing 50 years of service to the Ankeny Community and will be celebrating with a gala on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at the FFA Enrichment Center. Here is a moment from the history of Rotary and the Rotary Club of Ankeny:
During the first year of the Rotary Club of Ankeny, the Club charged an initiation fee for new members of $30. The Club kept $20 in their treasury and $10 was sent to Rotary International. They also charged $2.20 per meeting for meals which also covered District dues. Visiting Rotarians were charged $2.50 for lunch. In 1975, district dues went up by $1.00 for the year, so the Club increased the meal charge by $.05 to $2.25. This covered the cost of the meal which was $1.80 and $.45 was for the District Dues.
In 1981, dues were set at $65 per quarter which was an increase from $52 per quarter. By 1983, dues had been raised to $125 per quarter and then to $150 per quarter in 2004. The last change in dues came on January 1, 2011 when dues were increased to the current $175 per quarter for Active members. Dues for Evening Club members is currently $60 per quarter but does not include any meals.
