The Rotary Club of Ankeny is now 9 months from completing 50 years of service to the Ankeny Community and celebrating with a gala on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the FFA Enrichment Center.  Here is an example, from the July 1, 1974, Ankeny Rotary Newsletter, of what Rotarians do:

On the evening of June 18th, 1974, a severe weather storm struck Ankeny and killed a family of 2 while injuring another 50.  The storm produced an F4 tornado that caused major damage to an estimated 20-25 percent of the homes in Ankeny. The winds of the storm were estimated at 207-260 mph.  Rotary District 600 (As it was called at that time.) sent out a plea to each Rotary club in the district to send money to Ankeny to help the storm victims.  Ankeny President Gene Leedom named a committee to handle disbursements and asked for ideas on how the money should be used.  Over 20 clubs donated $2,167.25 to the Rotary Club of Ankeny.

The next committee meeting for the 50th anniversary celebration will be at 11:00 AM at the Ankeny Golf & Country Club on Tuesday, April 19th prior to the regular noon meeting.
