Ankeny's 2023-2024 Rotary Youth Exchange student, Sofia Aberturas Puga was the guest speaker at the noon Rotary meeting on Tuesday, October 24th and also spoke to the Evening Club on October 31st.. She is attending Ankeny Centennial High School and is in the 11th grade. Sofia’s first host family is Steve and Brenda Wieneke. The second will be the Bill and Victoria Ogier's family. The final will be the Jason and Jacquelyn Duke's family.
Sofia shared her experiences, in Iowa, so far, including getting to attend her first homecoming. In her home city of Madrid, Spain, her school doesn't have homecoming or prom and she was looking forward to experiencing that here in the US. Sofia also shared much about her culture, family and local Rotary club. Sofia enjoys volleyball, basketball, cooking, hanging out with friends, and trying new foods. She is very much looking forward to attending a 28 day United States bus tour along with other Rotary exchange students in mid-June through mid-July 2024.next summer.
