Polio Plus Night at Iowa Energy February 7th
The seventh annual Rotary Polio Plus / Iowa Energy Basketball Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015. This partnership with the Iowa Energy will help raise funds for the eradication of polio worldwide. As Rotarians, we are well aware that the eradication effort has entered a new and perhaps more difficult phase. "We are this close.. but we can not afford to lessen our effort, as the disease has proven very resilient and capable of resurgence at any time. New cases have decreased from 1,000 per day worldwide to only 222 in all of 2012. However, new cases in the Horn of Africa, particularly Somalia and Kenya have increased the number of new cases in 2013 to 416.
The Iowa Energy has priced their sideline $20.00 tickets at $16.00 to Rotarians and their friends and will give back to Rotary $8.00 for each ticket we sell to this event. The game will be 7:00 PM against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants at Wells Fargo Arena. Purchasing two tickets for $32.00 would provide Rotary’s Polio Eradication effort with a $16.00 rebate from Iowa Energy, and more importantly, immunize 27 children from the polio virus. In addition, there will be halftime entertainment by the Amazing Sladekl performing his amazing feat know as "The Tower of Chairs".
Tickets will be available soon at each Rotary meeting. If you would like to support PolioPlus but are unable to attend the game, tickets can be purchased and donated to local youth groups and other non-profits.
