$300 for Toys for Tots
The Sheriff on December 9th, Dave Mercer, said the fines would be donated to Toys for Tots and encouraged each Rotarian to dig deep into their pocket and find a little extra "jingle". When the meeting was over the fines bucket contained $299. At the Board meeting on December 11th, an additional dollar was donated to bring the total to an even $300. Jim Gocke, who had the original idea to donate the fine money to Toys for Tots, will either buy toys with the money or just make sure the money gets turned over to Toys for Tots.
Toys for Tots is a program fully funded by the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve. Its mission is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. Their primary goal is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
