Director, Melissa Burdick
The Brenton Arboretum

Melissa Burdick has been the Executive Director at The Brenton Arboretum in Dallas Center, IA for seven years. Prior to taking on her role there, she served as Director of Horticulture at Lauritzen Gardens in Omaha for three years and as Curator of Herbaceous Collections at The Norfolk Botanical Garden in Virginia for eight years.

In addition to serving in roles at botanical gardens, Melissa has been a prolific garden communicator as a writer for State-by-State Gardening publications, writer and in-house horticulture expert for vanBourgondien Bulb Co., and as co-host of Gardening Today on Iowa’s WHO Radio, AM 1040.

A native of Alabama, Melissa earned her bachelor’s degree in Landscape Design from Auburn University and a master’s in public horticulture administration from the Longwood Gardens Graduate Program at the University of Delaware.

In her free time, Melissa is a member and Treasurer of the Dallas Center Rotary Club and avid home gardener.
