District Governor Loring Miller to Visit Ankeny Rotary Clubs

Loring Miller and his Rotary partner Phyllis will make their official visits to Ankeny in September.   Their visit to the noon club will be on September 8th and on September 15th to the evening club.  Loring is a third generation Rotarian.  His grandfather was a founding member of the Rotary Club of Leo in 1926.  Loring was President of the Rotary Club of Leon, now the Rotary Club of Decatur County, in 1980, and he was the first Paul Harris Fellow in that club.

Loring is a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University and The University of Missouri at Kansas City.  While in graduate school, Loring met his life companion Phyllis, also a Rotarian, attending the School of Pharmacy at UMKC.   They returned to Leon in 1971 to follow business interest and raise a family.  Loring is retired from Miller Insurance Agency, Ltd. and Phyllis retired as President of Decatur Family Pharmacy Inc. both in Leon.  During Loring's first 20 years in Rotary he was involved in numerous community projects; however, he believes that he became a Rotarian when PDG Ken Noble introduced him to the world of Rotary beyond community borders with an invitation to join the District 6000 Youth Exchange Committee.  Loring has served on that committee for over 20 years, ten as chairman.  Loring is the recipient of the Rotary International Four Avenues of Service Citation and the International Service Award for a Polio-Free World.  Loring and Phyllis have hosted five Rotary exchange students and they are Rotary Foundation Benefactors and members of the Bequest Society, charter members of the District 6000 Paul Harris Society and Major Donors.

In addition to Rotary, Loring is President of the Decatur County Historical Society, Leon Zoning and Planning Commission and numerous other volunteer community activities.  He is recipient of the Leon Outstanding Citizen Award, Iowa Governor's Leadership Award, Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame Award, numerous Iowa Governor Volunteer Awards and the Iowa State Fair "Iowan for a Day".
