During the August meeting, the Board of Directors for the Rotary Club of Ankeny approved the following donation requests:

Blessman International - The request is to participate in a "Rotary Global Matching Grant" in a project named "Teach a Man to Fish".  The projected total cost of this project, over a 5 year period, is over $134,000.  The project will include a needs assessment and teach local schools, children, and adults to farm so they may feed themselves. Other clubs in the District, including Waukee, will be participating.  The funds will finance the needs assessment and provide meals for the trainees, purchase tools, hire teachers, and purchase seedlings.  Blessman International will be providing oversight and Dr. Blessman will personally be matching our donation.  The club agreed to contribute $4,000 this year and $2,000 in 2018, $2,000 in 2019, $2,000 in 2020 for a total of $10,000.

The Dictionary Project - The Board agreed to again distribute dictionaries to the Ankeny 4th graders.  It is estimated this will require 1,000 dictionaries at a cost of $2,500.

Warm Coats & Snow Pants - The Board allocated $3,000 to be split between the purchase of coats through the District's "Warm Coat" project and snow pants through Project Fresh start.  This will be the fourth year the club has participated in the Warm Coat project.

Meals from the Heartland - The evening satellite club will be packaging meals on August 24th for Meals from the Heartland.  A donation of $100 was approved to help cover the cost of the meal for the volunteers and the overseas transportation of the packages

M.O.S.T. - The Board agreed to contribute $425 to "Iowa Miles of Smiles Team" to assist them in their continued efforts to provide needed surgeries to individuals with cleft lip and cleft palate deformities.
